The next meeting of SDA Michigan will be on Sunday, March 25, at 2 p.m.
It will
be hosted by Sandy Kunkle at her home in Ann Arbor. (Directions to Sandy's can be found at the bottom of the post.)
We have
an exciting program that will involve everyone and help us to get to
know each other better. We are calling it "Extended Show and Tell".
We
often rush through our show and tell because there are other things
going on in meetings. For our March meeting, we want to focus on you,
the artist. The idea is to share how and why you work. Other than a very
short business meeting, the artist will reign.
Please bring 1 or more
pieces that were inspired by the same theme. Be prepared to talk about
your inspiration and how you translated that to your work. If you have a
second theme you would like to talk about, please bring it along.
Everyone will present once and then we can go around again as time
permits. Keep in mind, that your "theme" may be that you love shibori,
or a particular weave, or that you are experimenting with a technique.
For others, it may be an expression of an idea or making a series. This
sharing time will help us to get to know each other better and to learn
what kinds and variety of work we all represent.
We could also allow brief positive critiques if you would like. Not everyone likes them, so it could be optional. I suggest we use Jane Dunnewold's guidelines which may be downloaded from her website at under tutorials. Each person may decide whether they want a critique from the group or not.
I'd like to hear from you as to whether you think this is a good idea or not. Send me an email (skrage2@att.net) or leave a comment on this post.
We have
exciting programs for our next two meetings as well. June 9, Marilyn
Prucka has volunteered to do an indigo workshop at her studio in
Monroe. For September, Mary Valerie Richter will do a shibori workshop
(date not yet set). December will be our annual holiday party. Details
will be sent out closer to the time.
Hope to see you on March 25th!
