There is less than a week to decide to enter the fiber challenge! The idea was to involve you who are too far away to easily attend meetings. So far we have someone from Traverse City and Fort Gratiot participating. How about those of you in the U.P.? No one yet from Kalamazoo or Grand Rapids.
Don't delay, write your check today! (Do I sound like a car salesman?) Don't miss out!

Fanciful Fibers Challenge Update
Hi, Folks,
Here is an update on the Fanciful Fibers Challenge. There have been nine responses to the challenge but mostly from the "usual suspects". The farthest afield came from Fort Gratiot. How about some of you from the new Kalamazoo area group and I know we have some U.P. members. Join the fun and send your check for $5.00 and participate in a terrific group project without too much effort! The deadline is November. 5th. Do it before the holidays take all of your time.
Some of the comments received along with the checks have been:
"What a great idea!"
"Sounds like a lot of fun!"
"Great idea".
"Thank you for establishing the challenge. Its just what I needed to get the creative juices flowing."

Indigo Magic Workshop
There are still a couple of spaces for the "Indigo Magic" workshop on October 25, (Thursday) from 9:30-4:30, at my home in Detroit. E-mail skrage2@att.net, if you are interested. An entire day to manipulate and indigo dye...lots of fun and mess! You can leave the mess at my house and just take home beautiful fabrics.

Exhibit Opportunity
Jennifer Gould is sharing this information in case someone might be interested.......
Dear Jennifer,
I hope you are well and in good health.
I am the exhibition manager for Parallax Art Fair USA, an
art fair for artists. I wondered whether an exhibiting
opportunity in the second edition of the New York fair might
interest you? I hope you don't mind, I got your contact from
Artists Who Teach website.
The New York fair will take place at the Prince George from
16-18 November. The idea behind the event is to provide an
affordable platform for artists to exhibit their work in an
event underpinned by new theoretical thinking from art
history. There is no application fee; the only charge is the
hire fee, determined by how many panels/plinths the artist
chooses. All exhibitors have to submit hanging plans. We
also have a free storage/hanging service for artists that
ship work. The last edition was featured in the Huffington
Post and Departures Magazine.
You can find the application form and further information
here (as well as a link to the UK site and info about our
Miami show): http://www.parallaxaf.com/applicationform.html
For photographs of previous events, articles and updates,
artist reviews, please do join our facebook page:

I look forward to seeing examples of your work.
Thanks for your time.

Labels
At our recent Arashi Shibori workshop, Jennifer Gould shared some of her exquisite dolls with us. Each one had a beautiful black satin label with gold writing. Jennifer;s signature was in her own handwriting. Of course, we all wanted to know where she had them made. So here is the information.
Sterling Name Tape Co. - www.sterlingnametape.com
Winsted CT 06098
1-800-654-5210
There is a set -up fee to make the printing plate. Once that is done, it can be used for each re-order. Jennifer said that in 2009, she re-ordered 1000 labels for $108.
To make labels at home, I'd like to refer you to a tutorial on Connie Hester's website, http://www.conniehester.com/personalized-labels-tutorial.htm
I tried it and must say it worked! Surprise. I used inexpensive polyester ribbon on a roll from JoAnns. I printed on cardstock and then taped the ribbon, as described. I had no issues with feeding the entire thing through my straight loading printer with pigment ink. My only issue is that there is a very slight blurriness to the print and that is it fiddly. For a few labels, it is a good technique. If I needed 100's, I wouldn't bother.
